If you are pro nuclear, you cannot have a nuclear conversation without two things thrown in your face: Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.
I will add a third; SL-1.
Let’s say for this discussion they were all caused by the complexity, instability, and inevitible disaster of nuclear power. You’d believe me, right? Of course, because that is the official narrative.
TMI, Chernobyl, and SL-1 were all accidents just waiting to happen. That is nuclear power, a ticking time bomb. Deus ex machina; nuclear gremlins just biding their time to mess everything up. Nuclear has it’s own evil volition to generate havoc and radiation. Standard Jane Fonda boilerplate.
What if reality were different? (It usually is.) The TMI accident started exactly one year and some miliseconds after the reactor first went critical due to some water in the air instrument system. Later, some inexpereineced operators did not notice that the PORV was releasing water from the reactor. Additionally, no one realized that the emergency feedwater inlet valves to the reactor were closed, so no cooling water could reach the core. The official accident investigation didn’t probe into who closed the valves, why, and when. (You see, in the official narrative, nuclear plant valves can close themselves at any time, because gremlins.)
Chernobyl was a bat-crap crazy Soviet Reactor, run by comrades (and gremlins) just abiding their time to poison Central Europe. Comrades doing what comrades do, crazy experiments with a 1000 MW reactor. Bad things happen. . . . . (BTW, the other RBMK reactors at Chernobyl kept producing power for 16 years after the accident. “Gee, Virginia, were there human operators there for 16 years? National Geographic and Greenpeace said everything will be dead for 100s of miles around the plant for 10,000 years?”)
You may not have heard of the SL-1 accident. It occured on 3 January 1961 at the National Reactor Testing Station in Idaho. The full, official report can be read here.
The accident was caused by excessive removal (20 inches instead of just 2) of the central control rod, which caused the reactor to become prompt critical, releasing enormous energy, destroying the reactor and killing three operators.
The official investigation showed it was humanly possible to withraw the control rod 20 inches in a short amount of time. However, the report is silent as to why someone would want to do that.
Let’s now change gears. No more pretending that valves and contol rods move themselves for self-fulfilling purposes. Let’s assume some people did things for all the regular reasons, envy, lust, avarice, revenge, etc. (Note, these are not my original ideas. I have gleaned them from other sources.)
The nuclear plant that ended up at TMI was originally planned for New Jersey. The mafia attempted to shake down the utility/general contractor in NJ. The plant ended up being built in Pennsylvania. How difficult is it to drive to TMI, Pennsylvania from NJ?
Hypothetical conversation: “We did what you told us, Boss. We drove up there to Penn. Put out the word to ours contact at the plant. We didn’t know nothing about no valves. Ours contact said not to worry. He’d take care of it.”
“Yeah, Boss. We didn’t know nothing about no valves.”
Russia (and formerly the Soviet Union) sells commodities for cash, especially, oil and gas. Want to sell more?, make nuclear look bad, very bad to Europe, especially Germany. Intice Germany (and fund anti-nuclear Greens in Germany to close nuclear plants.) Is it really so inconceivable Chernobyl was sabotage? And the operators/saboteurs simply overdid it?
Recently someone (probably a state actor) sabotaged the Nordstream pipeline, which provided Russian gas to Germany. The Narrative is that Putin did it to himself, but we’re supposed to overlook the misaligned motive. Russia sells gas for money.
Lastly, there are rumors that two of the three SL-1 operators were involved in love triangle.
Hey, Joe, come up here. (Tom is on top of the reactor, trying to reconnect the central control rod to the automatic control drive.) I know that you have been sleeping with my wife. I’m going to get even with you, you bastard. I’m going to pull this control rod out 20 inches instead of just 2. That’ll show you!
The official reports ignored sabotage in their investigations. Why? Control rods don’t withdraw themselves and valves don’t close themselves. These reports have done a disservice by ignoring sabotage as a possible cause of these reactor accidents and wasted resources fixing the wrong problem.
Speaking of TMI, the commercial nuclear industry in the US has been dead on arrival since the sabotage in 1979. That corresponds roughly to when I started to be interested in nuclear power for our (human) benefit. Lawfare has caused nuclear build costs to skyrocket and practically stop all US nuclear construction since then.
I want nuclear power for human prosperity. As you can seen in the graphic below, low-energy use countries are poor, dirt poor. The properous countries use more energy to create more wealth. That’s why I favor nuclear energy. It is the cleanest, safest and the only inexhaustible source of energy.
Now, I have been reading on X, that Sam Altman wants nuclear to power AI and Bezos wants to build Amazon data centers near nuclear power plants. What a sick inversion of my values. For 50 years, we have not been able to build nuclear in the US because reasons and then suddenly billionaire deviants want nuclear for their profit and domination, with the former reasons evaporating.
Have you ever noticed the elite seem to be recreating the Matrix? (you know, the movie with Keanu Reeves?) Why? It’s almost like there is an unseen evil guiding the elite.
