I don’t know how I came across GKN, but I loved what Jack Devanney said in his comments regarding nuclear power’s problems.
In his last paragraph, he refers to Nuscale’s SMR. I have to confess that I was very enthused at UAMPS and Nuscale’s proposed plant at the Idaho National Lab Site. (Brigham City, where I live, is a member of UAMPS) and disappointed at the cancellation of the project. Little did I realize the vast size of the cooling pool, 400,000 cubic meters! Jack is correct that there is nothing small about that.
I have believed for some time that the “problem” with nuclear is not technical, nor is nuclear waste a technical problem. The technical problems have been solved. It is the political, social, emotional, blackmail, criminal problems that beleaguer nuclear and us. Jack sums it up well.
